After the submission of the report the Government of India accepted the recommendation of the Committee and the message rate was introduced. [...] Sir in this connection I would bring to the notice of the House that when there was this correspondence between the Calcutta Corporation and the Telephone Corporation on the 21st January 1929 the Secretary and Genral Manager of the Bengal Telephone Corporation wrote to the Chief Exective officer of the Calcutta Corporation on the subject of the reduction of ratein this way : Owing to [...] I do not want to leave the matter entirely in the hands of the Telephone Corporation but if an inquiry in the same way as the one that was held in 1923 on the initiative of the Government of India be conducted now it will be done much more quickly and that will be to the best interests of the subscribers as also of the shareholders of the Telephone Corporation. [...] As was explained to the members of the deputation on the 23rd July the distribution among the subscribers of a portion of the profits of the Company can be considered only when the dividend paid to the sharholders exceeds 124 per cent.
