The Senate also congratulated the undermentiont Ordinary Fellows of the University on their appointmet as Ministers of the Government of Bengal under the ne constitution : The Hon'ble Mr. [...] On the motion of the Vice-Chancellor the Syndit.al unanimously proposed to confer Honoris Causa the Degrt of Doctor in the Faculty of Law on the uudermentione"REPORT OF THE SYNDICATE 5 persons each of them being considered a fit and proper person to receive such a degree by reason of eminent position and attainments : Sir James Hopwood Jeans Kt. [...] Ad%isory Council of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research; formerly University Lecturer in Mathematics 1904; Professor of etpplieJ Mathematics in the Princeton University 1905-09; Stokes Lecturss in Applied Mathematics Cambridge 1910.12; President of the Royal Astronnical SecNity 1923-27; Secretary of the Royal Society 1919-29; Presdent of the pritish Association for the Adv [...] The subject of his lectures was 'Some Makers of English Law' which he delivered towards the close of the year and the commencement of the year 1938. [...] This is for the first time since the institution of research degrees and prizes in this University that a thesis written in the language of the land has been accepted for adjudginent of the intrinsic merit of the work contained therein and it opens up a new line full of immense possibilities for work for the enrichment of the Bengali language and literature.
