During the strike the officers of the Company (lid not attend office and on the 2nd November the Company managed to remove some of the important documents from the office without the knowledge of the employees who were members of the Union. [...] meeting on 11th February 1948 called off the strike on the verbal assurance said to have been given to the Union by the Hon'ble Prime Minister Hon'ble Labour Minister and the Deputy Labour Commissioner to set up a tribunal to adjudicate the disputes between the Union and the Company and wrote' to the Company to intimate the willinness a the members of the Union to resume their duties forthwith [...] On the other hand the Company brought in the larger issue of retrenchment to meet the demand of the Union for reinstatement of the ten men of the godowns. [...] Letters were exchanged between the parties over the question of retrenchment from time to time ending with the letter of the Company to the Union dated the 20th Ocober 1947 inviting a deputation of the Union to duseuss the question. [...] The letter to the Union was addressed by the Manager and if the Union thought that the reply should be sent to the Manager and that the Manager alone was competent to deal with the matter the Union cannot be blamed.
