The most important works are the Ramtek reservoir in the Central Provinces the Betwa and Ken canals in the United Provinces the Rushikulva in Madras and the Nira and Godavari systems in the Bombay Presidency. [...] These figures inclade indirect receipts in the shape of land revenue malikana interest on the sale value of land and revenue generally that would not have existed but for the construction of the Colony canals and the colonization and irrigation of the Crown waste lands. [...] t. In Madras the rainfall of both monsoons was above the average and the net cropped area in the Presidency during the year under review was 39 million acres the same as in the previous year. [...] The canal systems in Bengal the most important of which are the Midnapur canal the Flijili Tidal canal the Circular and Eastern and the Maclarour Bhil systems are used principally for navigation purposes. [...] In Burma the set:son was a good one the rainfall being generally up to the normal and well distributed except in the Meiktila district where the early and late rains were untimely and the middle rains failed altogether with the result that little irrigation was done there.
