The Imperial Gazetteer of India Multan to Palhalli

1886

A native Arab dynasty of Amirs continued to reign over the country about the junction of the Chenab and the Sutlej until the rise of the Ghazni Empire. [...] After the establishment of the Council of Regency at Lahore as one of the results of the first Sikh war difficulties arose between the Diwan Mtilraj and the British officials which culminated in the murder of two 'British officers and finally led to the Mahan rebellion. [...] It ended in the capture of Miiltan and the annexation of the whole of the Punjab by the British. [...] Local tradition connects the site with the wars of the Padavas and the Kauravas chronicled in the ilfandbhdrata when the Raja of Miinj and his two sons fought on the side of Raja Yudhishthira. [...] Gradually too as the hills approach the southern frontier of the District the length of the ranges grows less and less until near the borders of Jeblam District only a narrow line of upland separates the Jehlam river from the plains.
