Parliamentary Debates Parliament of India Wednesday 28th March 1951 Part II - Proceedings other than Questions and Answers Official Report

1951

Since the India Office is in a way a miniature of the -Government of India because of its, huge set-up and large number of em- ployees, is it the intention of the Gov- arnment, I want to ask, to permit . another republic within the Republic f India and to give it a favoured eatment. ? [...] These problems are akin to the pro- blems of the many other countries of the world, and the people of India, after understanding the whole situa- tion will have to solve them in a spirit of mutual co-operation and cordially and thoughtfully. [...] The Government might adopt the normal procedure of taking the House into confidence on every treaty and getting their approval or they might adopt the British practice of laying the treaty on the table of the House for 21 days or a month and then fix a time for discussion of the treater and then the discussion might take place. [...] I do not wish to take the time of the House in discussing the effects of the Indo- Pak agreement of April, 1950. [...] The peace that exists is the peace of the dead and not of the living.
