VICE-CHANCELLOR, FELLOWS AND STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY, OFFICMICS AND Alto; OF TuE CALCI'TTA UNIVERSITY INFANTRY, We are met to-night to consider once more qome of the causes of the war, to reflect upon certain of its phases, to pay ourt;ibute of reverent gratitude to those who have upheld the honour and maintained the security of our Empire hitherto, and especially to those who have made t [...] Granted that this is so, on what terms is the territory held ? We hatve no knowledge of the permanent ftttlement that may be made, and, even if at the close of the war the territory is retained )1 Britain with the consent of the allies, it will be in order to save the inhabitants of these countries from that fate worse than death which wquld be theirs if they came again under the rule of Germany.
