Department of Agriculture Madras. Annual Report of the Agricultural Station Samalkota for the year 1923-24

1924

Tablo I shows the fortnightly rainfall during the year compared with that of the previous four years and that of the average for 21 years. [...] The season subsequent to planting was fairly favourable except for the fact that the heavy rains and winds in October and November interfered with the setting of the grain by lodging the crop and caused the grain to shed. [...] 23 gave an increased yield of 6. 19 per cent over the bulk while the probable error of the mean yield of the plots worked. [...] In the case of the test carried on in 1920-21 with Ratnachudi and Palagummasari and that with Ratnachudi in 1921-22, the quality of seedlings might have been better in the case of light seed on account of its poor germination and this might have enabled them to give higher yields than if the germination was normal. [...] Table XI gives the results of the two richer plots in the series separately from . those of the three poorer plots * for the three years of the experiment and the figures show that the manuring of rich lands with manures of even such proved value as green-leaf plus bone-meal may not be profitable.
