With the expansion of the Comittee's schemes in the provinces and the growing recognition of the value of the Laboratory tests the number of such samples increased steadily ; but there was a general feeling that the Laboratory should assist more directly the cotton trade and industry. [...] The object of making these tests was to place in the hands of the cotton textile industry information regarding the waste losses and the spinning performance of different trade varieties in the early part of the season in order to enable the consumers to decide which of these cottons would be suitable for their mixings.
