As most of the samples tested at the Laboratory for the Agricultural Departments are in the experimental stage the results of these tests are not published for general information but are communicated only to the officers supplying the samples. [...] With the expansion of the Committee's schemes in the provinces and the growing recognition of the value of the tests carried out at the Laboratory the number of such samples increased steadily ; but there was a general feeling that the Laboratory should render more direct assistance to the cotton trade and the textile industry. [...] In the first place they provided the trade and the industry with reliable information regarding the waste losses and the spinning performance of the chief types of Indian cottons this information being made available not only to merchants and spinners in India but also to consumers of Indian cottons in foreign countries. [...] The object of making these tests was to place in the hands of the cotton textile industry information regarding the waste losses and the spinning performance of different trade varieties in the early part of the season in order to enable the consumers to decide which of these cottons would be suitable for their mixings.
