With the issue of a Notification by the Government of India amending Rule 7 of the Indian Cotton Ginning and Pressing Factories Rules 1925 relating to the marking of bales we have I hope arrived at a permanent9 solution of the difficulties experienced by the trade in the working of this legislation. [...] Besides this new Department the Government of the State has recently taken various other steps in the mobilization of the resources of the State for the re-making of its villages. [...] At this Conference all interests including representatives of the Sonsek group of Co-operative Societies were represented and the reprsentatives of the Central Cotton Committee had emphasized the danger to which the growers of 1027 A. L. F. were being submitted by the continued cultivation of the inferior Surat lA variety north of the Tapti.19 The Vice-President moved :— RESOLUTION 11.—That [...] The Vice-President said that the Committee had passed a resolution last year regretting that the Government of Madras had decided to reduce the protected areas in the Presidency by amalgamating the Tinnevelly and Tiruppur-Cambodia areas in the south and hoping that this decision might be re-considered after a trial of the enlarged zone if it was found that the work of the Agricultural Department i [...] The Vice-President said that all the recommendations Of the Comittee with regard to the amendment of Rule 7 the alteration in the bye-laws of the East India Cotton Association and the request to the Government of India to take steps to impress on local Governments the importance of correct marking of bales up-country had been put into effect.
