The reason for this change which was not very well understood at the time would seem to be that the Government is of opinion that no particular member of the Bar should be allowed to hold the office for life. [...] But the most beneficial discipline is from having to put the whole proceedings into shape to fashion a report full enough to be intelligible yet free from surplusage—a hard-won al t. -to do this he (our student) has to read the pleadings to listen attentively to the evidence to formulate and disentangle the arguments to sift the authorities to harmonise to rationalise ; and so he c.mstructs [...] In this cause the matter arose out of a salvage action in which there were two sets of Plaintiff claiming salvage the owners of the steam tug "Knight of the Cross" and the owners of the "Sea King and Gipsy King." Mr. [...] Justice Barnes had delivered judgment at the hearing of the action sanctioning costs of two counsel to each set of Plaintiffs though the action had been consolidated and the solicitors to the owners of the "Knight of the Cross " had been given the conduct of the action. [...] Oh taxation the Registrar of the Liverpool District Registry struck out the costs of the solicitor for the " Sea King and Gipsy King " for attending the trial of the action.
