When Sir Richard Webster was a prattising member self the Bar his professional income was considerably in exc&S of £14 000 a year THE PRACTICE OF THE JUDGES OF THE CALCUTTA Small Cause Court of referring contentious suits to the arbitration of pleaders of the Court is a matter of general complaint. [...] In England when one of the parties applied to the arbitrator to state a case or in the altimiative to delay the award whilst the party applied to Court for an order to call upon hint to state it case and the arbitrator refused to act up to either suggestion and delivered his award the Court held him guilty of misconduct and removed him. [...] We suggested that the preference of a Cliief Court to a High Court was due to the jealousy which the admisistrators of the Government of India.have always entertained towards barriters in India and their resentment at the independence of the barrister judges in the Indian High Courts. [...] The first appointments which have been made to the new. court mhkeill it.clear not only that the Government would not bind itself to exclude members ofikhe Civil Service from the Chief Judgeship but intended to prefer the members of that service for the highest judicial office in the province and thus to keep the control of the Court practically in the hands of the executive. [...] THE LORD CRIPANCELLOR ISPEAKING AT THE BANQUET of the Goldsmith's Company announced thaA new Court of Appeal for the whole Empire had been under the consideration of the Government for a long time past and that the matter was now ripe for legislation."
