ON THE APPLICATION OP THE STANDING COUNSEL on liehalf of the Crown the Second Criminal Sessions for the town of Calcutta has been specially fixed to commence from the 27th March next and not from the date previously announced As WAS ifitescritn THE JUDICIAL COMMITTEE HAS affirmed the decision of the Special Bench of the Calcutta High Court [...] (i) in the description of 'the dangerous meetings the words any public excitement " have been omitted so as to confine the operation of the Act only to associations tending to promote disturbances of public tranquility ; and (iv) the authority to whom the notice of a meeting is prescribed to be given is made the District Magistrate instead of the Superintendent'of Police and the regulation of pol [...] The value of the book under notice lies in the fact that the compiler not only summarises the law but also the reasons as they have commended themselves to the autho's of the law. [...] The special features of this edition are a map of India showing the local and territorial juridictions of the several schools of Hindu law ; a treatment of the principles of interpretation according to the Mimansa and a note on Vijnneshvara's theory of Sapindaship. [...] 16(43 7th edition) that a conviction for felony is res inter alios acta and of itself is no evidence in any civil proceeding that the r erson convicted has committed a folony." The decision in the case did not rest upon this ground ; and the case is not referred to at all in any of the subsequent editions of Taylor on Evidence ; nor in the notes of the lea ling case of the Duchess of Kingston's
