If as was prognosticated something of the full s: use of responsibility has been removed from juries by the estab:ishment of the Court of Criminal Appeal it is satisfactory to find that the highest traditions of British Justice are pre— served by tbat Court and that even under the greatest stress of national feeling impartial tteatnient is accorded to the alien as well as to the native—born [...] Nothing could more redound to the credit of our administration of justice than the quashing of the conviction for high treason of the ex—German Consul of Sunder— land by the Full Court of Appeal on the morrow of the inquest on the victims of the murderous attack on open towns in that district by vessels of his native State. [...] port a conviction based on a technical breach of the provisions of the Statute of Treasons fobidding the giving of aid or comfort to the King's enemies and should have had regard rather to the ' intention and purpose ' of the accused than to his bare acts in the execution of his duty as a Consul of the enemy State.— The Law Journal. [...] If the jury thought that the explanation which had been given might reasonably be true although they were not convinced that it was true the prisoner was entitled to be acquitted because the Crown would have failed to discharge the onus imposed upon it by the law of satisfying the jury beyond reasonable doubt of the guilt of the prisoner. [...] The Plaintiff sued for a declaration that he was the manager and a trustee of the assets of a business carried on by the Defendant an Austrian firm in England and for the appoinment of a receiver of the assets of the said business with liberty to pay the debts thereof.
