The responsibility of the Legal Remembrancer in this connection is much lightened by the fact that after a Rule is issued by the High Court the District Magistrate very often writes to the Legal Remembrancer in which cases he wishes counsel to be engaged. [...] Dickman was found guilty of the murder of one John Nesbit whose dead body was found under the seat of a third class carriage in the afternoon of the 18th of March on the North London Railway. [...] The compiler in his preface expresses a decided opinion that the provision in question has had the effect apprehended by the opponents of the Bill of shifting the onus of proof from the proscution to the prisoner and he holds that if it had been possible to keep Dickman out of the witness-box the probability is that the jury would have acquitted him on the ground that the prosecution hail [...] His ambition therefore is to write a book on Hindu law " as understood by a Native of Madras." It must not be imagined however that the author in his anxiety to present the point of view of Hindus of his Presidency has been in any degree unmindful of the Dayabhaga view or the views of writers suspect of the Daybhaga bias—for he frankly acknowledges.indebtedness to several of the Tagore.Lectu [...] Their Lordships made the Rule absolute and passed the following order :- "Having regard to the finding that the acused were not actuated by any desire to defeat the orders of the Court and also to the findings that the peons do not appear to have made any real and effective attempt to enter the house and that the resistance offered by the accused was merely by word of mouth we do not think the
