Although we are' not in favour of Judges of the High Court bang appointed members of the ExecutiveXouncil of any local or of the.India Government or on the other hand of members of the Executive Council being made judges vet in the case of Mr. [...] The appointment of an EEaw Alember of the Government of India to the position of a puisne judge of an Indkin Nigh Court is no doubt unprecedented but we doubt whether the judge-elect will be any the less indepwlent on that account. [...] They have also been able to remove many a misapprehension in the mind of the Colonial representatives as to the past and present civilization of Tndia and the potentiality of her proving before' long to be One of the most progressive important and active partners of the British Commonwealth. [...] But it is not too much to say.that both at the Coltference and before the English public his attitude was preminently that of a true representative of all classes and sections of the Indian people from the prince to the peasant. [...] If further proceedings are taken the Magistrate will consider the propriety of arranging that the ‘voman should be examined in the presence of the husband either by himself or by some Deputy Magistrate of experience and standing with due regard to the preservation of purdah in some house or room to be taken or arranged for by her in the immediate neighbourhood of the Courts.
