The vacancy left on the Bench of the Cacutta High Court by the retirement of the Hon'ble Sir Syed Shainsul Hilda has been filled by the appointment of Mr. [...] The standing' orders relating to the procdure to be followed by the various provincial gisffitures in the conduct of their business although gamed by the respective governors in Council' in exercise of the power vested in them by the Government of India Act are very much alike. [...] (D) 6 gives the legislature the power to alter or modify the standing orders subject of course to the approval of the Governor and it is hoped that nothing will he done to restrict the exercise of that power t wards making the orders generally acceptable. [...] The powers of the urts under this section appear to be quite eretioVry to he regulated according to the x nduct of the parties not only during the trial ut*dUring the period antecedent to the suit.
