Amongst the other articles of interest: 1 he one on the “ Constittion' or Iraq ” is Very intcrestin of the consideration that the question is likely to rceive the attention of the League of Nations in the near future. [...] Thus it was entirely left to the discretion of the Court whether or not to allow the accused to have a copy of the statement recorded by the police officer and t'he use of the statement for contradicting the witness under sec. [...] The answer if it is in the affirmative gives the accused the right to ask for a copy of the statement and when the particular witness is cross-examined the necessary.portion of the statement is put to him fof the purpose of contradicting him. [...] This is the necessary consequence of the introduction of the words " if duly proved " in the section as it now stands The learned Judges observe that there is no presumption ag to the genuineness of the statments of witnesses entered in the police diaries and unless they are duly proved the evidence gin in Court cannot be contradicted by them. [...] The Turkish Minister of the Interior has ordered/ the Govenors of the Province of Constantinople to take the severest measures against extravagance in order to put down the luxury which is gaining the upper hand in the old capital.
