The Crown is however the outward sybol of such union and is henceforth to be rgarded as has been described in the address' presented to H. M. The King at the conclsion of the Confeience as “ the abiding symbol and emblem of unity of the British Common Wealthof Nations.” The title of the King has also been modified to suit the susceptibilities of the Irish-Free State and perhaps als [...] XXXI political -wisdom recognised the far-reacing claims of equality of the political and international status of the Dominions and guaranteed the sovereignty and indepedence of their people - and their goverments and at the same time bound them all in the common. [...] The Committee therefore; examii_ed these forms and dealing first with the title of the Kng which in the last 50 years has been twice altered to suit changed conditions unanmously agreed that a slight change subject to the King's approval was desirabre and that the title should hencforward read George the Fifth by the Grace of God of Great Britain Ire'and and the British Dominions beyo [...] The practice whereby the GovernoGeneral is the formal official oh gine' of communication between the Government in Britain and the Governments in the Dominions might then be regarded as no longer wholly in accordance with the constitutional position of the Governor-General. [...] mittee points out that in the case of treaties negotiated under the League of Nations adherence to the wording of the annexe to the Covenant has led to the use of the term " British Empire" with the enumeration of the Dominions and India amongst the parties to the convention but without any mention of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Colonies and Protectorates.
