It opens with an article on Libel upon the dead and the Bath Chub case ' in which alter reviewing the English and Scotch law under winch no action for damages is maintainabe on behalf of the dead for defamation by even those nearest and dearest to him the author proceeds to discuss the remedies both civil and criminal that are furnished by the law of France with certain necessary safeguards. [...] As a representative of India to the League or at the signing of treaties is a nominee of the Governor-General or the Secretary of State fur India the position of India remailis the same as it was before namely that of a Depedency. [...] Ideed the chief reason that weighs with Indians in making them wish for the continuance of the jurisdiction of the Judicial Committee is the hope that they will frequently use their powers of interference to correct mistake and bias winch is the only restraint now available on the Courts in India and indirectly on the executive. [...] The present edition though based on the prvious editions has been thoroughly revised and brought up-to-date-by the present editor both in respect of the many amendments of the Act by the Legislature and the interpretation of the law by the Judicial Connuittee of the Privy Council and the various High Courts in India. [...] The marriage law of the Hindus of Bengal is derived principally from the Udvaha-tatwant by liaghunandana Bhattacharjya but so far the only aid to the study of that rather abstruse volume has been the Commentary by Eashiram Bachaspati itself a not very easily intelligible work.
