To him along with the late Sir Asutosh Chaudhuri and Lord Sinha of Raipur belongs the credit of paving the way to the lndianisation of the Calcutta Bar. [...] W. C. Bonerji had by his ability worked his way up to the first rank amongst the British members of the Calcutta Bar who by their ability independence and observance of the high traditions of the English Bar had made The Calcutta Bar the premier Bar in India. [...] When the late Sir Asutosh Chaudhuri left the Bar for the Bench of the High Court be made over charge of the public movements with which he was connected to Mr. [...] That setion reads thus:— 8. (1) The Local Government may subject to the control of the Governor-General in Council make rules for determining the value of land for purposes of jurisdiction in the wiits metioned in the Court Fees Act ik7n sec. [...] But it does not appear that in the cases referred to any investigation was made as to whether the Local Government had indeed made rules and the District Judge had merely drawn up a chart on the basis of those rules for the convenience and assistance of the lower Courts.
