We have explained before how the recommendations of the White Paper are even more retrograde and reactionary than those of the Montague-Chelmsford Scheme and the Simon Commission rcommendations and it is but natural that the Indian public have lost all interest in the constitutional changes that are ouin the White Paper. [...] 8. The chief merit of this latest publication on the Bengal Tenancy Act is that it comes to grips with the amendments of 1928 brings their difficulties up to the surface and conveys a clear and firm impression of the new Act both in the whole and in detail. [...] We are of opinion that the present work with the concreteness of its treatment the precision of its analysis and above all with the directness of its contact with the Act 127"caaviii THE -CALCUTTA WEEKLY NOTES. [...] of the Court indicating its permission during the cross-examination of the witness by the party calling him. [...] If the question of jurisdition is be decided by the Court itself with reference to the existence or othei wise of a particular fact in bar of the trial there is no inherent want of jurisdiction and the judment pronounced may be erroneous but not void and cannot be collaterally imprached.
