The High Court characterised this assurance as “cadid” and “clear” and although it held that the article in question did amount to cotempt it also held that in the case of the editor and the publisher it was “unnecesary to inflict punishment.” Only they were directed to pay a small sum towards the costs of the Crown. [...] A Delhi paper published the news with a head-line to the effect that the edtor of The Leader “and others” had tedered an apology and thereupon the mitake was corrected in The Leader in its issue of the 7th of August. [...] was issued by the High Court over the signature of its Registrar a General Letter addressed to all District Judges by which it was intimated that the name of The Leader had been struck off from the list of newspapers approved for the publication of Court notices. [...] Unless however that were the case we do not see what the point can be in that portion of the Registrar's letter' in which reference is made not only to a subsequent offence but also to failure to apologise " for the publication of the offending letter." The subsequent offence alleged is that in an editorial note the paper had " in a way " emphasised the fact that it had not tendered an unqual [...] Yet the issue of the case which went against the paper has not been permitted to affect its business reltions with the High Court and the Registrar on the Original Side who initiated the cotempt proceedings against the Patrika has been sending it the sale notifications as bfore in the usual manner.
