The amenment has taken away the "privileged position of Coperative Societies under the proviso to Sub-clause (izi) under clause (i) of suction 6o of the Code as in the opinion of the Government of India it is unnecessary to continue the priviledge ". The Royal Commission of Labour recommended that wages and salaries of workmen receiving less_ than Rs. [...] The present amendment and the action of the Government of India proceeded on the lines suggested by the Commission. [...] Up till 11477 the whole of the salary et the public officer was attachable as debt " To enable a public officer to mantain himself and his family one half of the salary was for the first time exempted from attachment in the Code of 1877 by the new proviso (h) in section 266 of the Code.
