1944

The Legal Remembrancer of the Province who presided at the examination is reported to have remarked that if anyone could answer all the twelve questions correctly he would not be wasted in a District Judgeship but would be sent straight to the Privy Council. [...] We are prepared to believe that this was intened to be an exhibition of humour and not to represent the speaker’s idea of the qualifications necessary for membership of the Judicial Comittee. [...] Some of the questions were framed on a co nmon plan which was that a number of thin were first mentioned forming a series and hen a number of other things were metioned forming another series and candidates were asked to say which item of the latter series was common to or would fit in with all the items of the first. [...] In the present case however it is not possible to imagine the examiners to be in the position of brothers-ilaw to the candidates. [...] What he would have to do in his job with knowledge of the mechanism of air-craft might not be apparent but the asking of the question was at'16ast intelligible.
