Jinnah has subjected the Cabinet Mission’s statement to a detailed and critical analysis but he has left it to the Working Committee and the Council of the Muslim League “to take such decision as they may think proper after careful consideration of the pros and cons and a thorough and dispassionate examination of the statement.” Where the country’s principal leaders prefer not to tread too hastil [...] The unambiguous declaration of the British Government’s desire to meet India’s wishes which Lord Pethick-Larence made in his radio speech and the rightful rejection of the Muslim League’s demand for Pakistan did indeed cause widespread exhilartion on the day the Mission’s statement was published.
