Everyone knows of the respect in which he is held by the Bench and the Bar alike and the anxiety of the litigant public to secure his sevices on both sides Original and Appellate of the High Court. [...] He is the recipient of the personal distinction of Raja and deserves to be congratulated on the honour. [...] Now that Congress has come out with an open declaration that the interference of the Viceroy and the Cabinet Mission in the matter of' the formation of the new Government should -go and “ the parties ” must be permitted to dcide composition one would be entitled to interpret it as something of an acceptance of the challenge rather unhappily worded we fear which the Cabinet Mission had thrown [...] As a matter of fact if “ the Indian Parties ” can still manage to get going with the constitutional scheme adumbrated by the Cabinet Mission we do not for our part propose insuperable objections even to the suggested grouping of provinces for we find that in Bengal-Assam the position of Muslims and Hindus is likely to be virtually one of parity and therefore they should accept as a kind of [...] If paragraphs 17 and 20 of the Cabinet Mission's recommendations are read together we are of the view that in all equity if not in a rigid adherence to the letter of the law Europeans should be content with whatever safeguards are prescribed for them by the Advisory Committee on the rights of citizens minorities and tribal and excluded 'areas.
