Justice Gentle’s elevation to the office of Chief Justice of the Madras High Court has been rleased some time ago even though the appoinraent does not take effect for several months yet to come no similar announcement has been vouchsafed us in regard to the permanent vacancy in the office of the Chief Justice Calcutta High Court which will require to be filled before the expiry of the co [...] Hopes had been pitched high that in spite of the many difficulties besetting the Congress and the League leadership a way out would somehow be found and the Interim Government that was to usher in India’s Constitution-making body and make arrangements for its smooth and successful working would have in it the participation of at least the two major parties in the country.
