Manacling of civil liberties was quite a feature in war-time when under the euphonious name of the Defence of India things were done by Government’s ukase that stank in the nostrils of all who have j been nurtured on the notion of the law s close affiliation with liberty. [...] And of course the number ef arrests is already more than half the total number of arrests made on account of the riots! The public and riot least of all the legal prfession have not forgotten the Coroner's verdict on the police's doings in November 1945 a verdict which produced little effect on the police but resulted somehow in the Coroner being balked of the usual renewal of his office. [...] 33 of the Civil Procedure Code the suject-matter of the proposed suit may in proper cases be taken into consideration but the enquiry should in all cases be directed to the ascertainment of the applcant's capacity to raise the necessary courfee. [...] The authority in this case was in the following terms :— I hereby agree to give you brokage of two per cent for negotidting and completing the sale of. the same to be paid only on completing the transation and as soon as the sale is registered provided the offer is for Rs. [...] A member of a joint Hindu family who is disqualified from enjoying his share in the family estate by reason of the fact that he is deaf and dumb is entitled to take and enjoy the whole estate when he becomes the sole surviving member of the family.
