He also served the profession in other capacities— as a member of the Bar Council and of the Council of Law Reporting. [...] In his address to the law students Meredith J. of Patna High Court is rported to have castigated the system of union in the magistracy of executive and judicial functions and the resulting iefficiency partiality and delay in the aministration of criminal justice in India. [...] But the field of law will in this ill-starred province be enriched by the soundness of your knowledge the clearness of your perception and the quicness of your grasp. [...] All the long years that I have been in the profession I had always the best of feelings with the members of the Bar and they always loved me as their brother. [...] It is with funess of my heart that I thank you for all the words you have said about the nature and high responsibilities of the office to which it has pleased God to call me and I dare say that I shall have the same co-operation from you which I had at the Bar and I know full well that without the assistance of the Bar it is impossible to discharge the duties of this office.
