It is a good sign of the times that it common with the rest of the citizens Cacutta lawyers have tried this time to come out into the open and rise' to the full stature of the responsibilities that devolve upon them as members of a profession that is not only learned but imbued above all with a sense of the paramountcy of social obligation. [...] 'Whoever has any thing to do with the Calcutta High Court will agree with us when we say that both the honourable judges mentioned above have earned the respect of the profession and the confidence of the litigant public by their conduct on the Bench. [...] The principal point at issue in the case was the validity or otherwise of Dominion legislation puporting to abolish all appeals to the Privy Council both from the Supreme Court of Canada and from the provincial Courts of that.Dominion. [...] 1931 the Dominions have been invested with all the attributes of sovereignty common allegance to the same crowned head the British King being the only condition voluntarily accepted by the Dominions and lending plausibility to the Commonwealth's appelltion of British." The passage of the Idian Independence Act 1947 has meant that as from " the appointed day " August 15 1947 two n [...] The judgment reported in this issue places correctly considerable emphasis on the fact that the regulation of appeals is a prime element in the sovereignty of the Domnions and lays clown therefore that legilation to abolish all Canadian appeals to the Privy Council is intro wires the Domnion Parliament.
