We invite attention of the legal profession to a letter from the Registrar on the Original Sid to the Secretary of the Incorporated Law Society of Calcutta inviting attention to the not very uncommon practice of filing plaints withou stating therein when and at what place the cause of action arose. [...] 488 which deprives an adulterous wife of her right to claim maintenance from her husband whatever the point of time when the adultery was comitted whether prior or subsequent to the making of the order under the section by the Magistrate but we object to the raising of the maximum of the amount of maintainance under the section from Rs. [...] We think that the section as drafted in the Bill if passed will land Criminal Courts in a discussion of intricate questions as to the right to sue and cause of action and we suggest that the compensation should be made payable “ to any person who in the opinion of the Court may be 145cxlvi THE CALCUTTA WEEKLY NOTES. [...] The next question that would arise in this connection is the character and status of the person to be appoited a commissioner The duty of a commissioner would be to take down deposition only in the presence of the parties and thus it is not such a duty as could not be performed by a member of the legal profession. [...] So it would not be pressing the point too for if we were to suggest the adoption of the same system in criminal cases as well As regards the examination of parties in criminial cases the adoption of such a system is not always practicable especially in the case of the accused.
