(3) If however it is necessary to go up or down the weight C. V. scale by one or more steps to find a range which includes the observed weight C. V. then the grade is given by the mean of the number of the step in the quality ratio scale and the number of the std in the( 9 ) weight C. V. scale. [...] The principle that may be followed is that whenever the quality ratio is at the upper end of a range and the weight C. V. is simultaneously at the lower end of a range a plus sign may be placed after the grade nuber and when the quality ratio iat the lower end of a range and the weight C. V. is simultaneously at the uppeend of a range a minus sign may be placed after the grade number. [...] But if the quality ratio had been 77 (only one unit lower) the yarn would fall into grade 4 although if the accuracy of the results justified it the application of the priciple indicated in the preceding paxagraph -would place it as 4+ (roughly equal to 41).) It should be borne in mind that the single thread breaking load tests were made on a 3o inch test-'length and the results in the' body [...] The mean of the ten quality ratio results gives the best estimate of the quality ratio of the sample that can be made from the data obtained. [...] Facing the first page of the text will be found a list of the staff who in one way or another contributed to the work herein described whether by assisting in the collection of samples and mill data routine testing of the yarns organising the work of testing or assisting on the statistical side.
