Indian Central Jute Committee. Technological Research. Memoir No. 8. The Apparent Density of Jute Fibre and its Relation to Spinning Quality

1945

It pentrates the pore space--; quite slowly and thus the rate of pentration at any instant of time can be ascertained quite accurately.( 4 ) From these rates and the weight readings for the sample in Qie oil at different instants of time the weight of the sample just at the instant of immersion of the fibre i.e. [...] The relation of the apparent density of the fibre to its spinning quality has been examined and the practical significance of the results discussed. [...] The increased damping resistance caused by the viscosity of the liquid enables the small gradual increase in weight of the bucket due to increasing penetration of the liquid to be followed and compensated for with the chain very easily. [...] The apparent density was calculated wd from the expression where w= initial weight of the w1 - W2 ?ample w1= weight of the wetted fibre in air w2= weight of the wetted fibre in oil and d= density of the oil. [...] The presence of any oil on the surface of the fibre would obviously lower the apparent density of the fibre.
