On receipt of the sad intelligence His Highness the Maharaja Saheb sent a message of loyal sympathy and sincere condolences to Her Majesty the Queen Empress and to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales on behalf of Her Highness the Maharani and himself and of the people of the State. [...] Ori the day of the funeral of His late Majesty (which took place on the 28th January) 70 minute guns corresponding to the age of His Majesty were fired at the capital the last gun being fired and the flag on the Mandvi being dropped as the sun set. [...] On the whole the rainfall was sufficient and well distributed over the Raj with the exception of the three talukas of Patan Harij and Chanasma in the Mehsana district and the Okhamandal mahal. [...] 7. This unique event in the history of Baroda attracted a large number of visitors-Europeans and Indians from all parts of India: and the visit of Their Excellencies the Viceroy and the Countess of Willifigdon added to the grandeur of the occasion. [...] I have decided in commemoration of this happy event to set apart a fund of one crore of rupees to be called the Diamond Jubilee Trust the income of which will be devoted to improving the conditions of life of the rural population especially those of the poor and of the depressed classes supplementing the amounts which will be progresively devoted to such purposes in the regular buigets of
