It involve(i) the construction of a large masonry dam on the Cauvery at Mettur. the object of the dam being to store the flood waters of the river and to pass them down to the delta as and when required ; (ii) the construction of an irrigation canal (the Grand Anicut Cana taking off on the right bank of the Cauvery ; (iii) the improvement and extension of the existing Vadaver canal: in the Cau [...] (e) The Kannapalli project in the Ananthapur district was abandoned during the year as there were no facilities for the storage of the flood waters of the Hagari river. [...] Works completed.—The works carried out during the year were the construction of certain syphons on the Sind canal system reiuodelling of the Labano distributary of the Sind canal the raising of the banks of inspection paths on the Jamrao canal system and the strengthening of the right bank of the Jamrao West Branch. [...] The decrease in the area irrigated was due to ample rainfall and the non-renewal of many of the lapsed leases owing to the fall in the price of rice. [...] on the north bank was almost completed at the end of the year and a start was made with protecting the bed of the canal at the Letpangon toll station.
