Agricultural Marketing in India. Report on the Marketing of Grapes in India and Burma

The abridged version of the Report on the Marketing of Grapes in India and Burma" has been prepared with a view to giving in brief the important features of the survey dealt with in detail in the main report already published. [...] The share of important provinces and States in acreage and production of grapes in India will be seen in the diagram facing page 3. In India grapes are available throughout the year in one or other of the producing areas due to the great variation in climate in the different parts. [...] The main factors which influence the prices of standing crops are the variety the extent of the crop the distance of the vineyard from the railway station or the market and the faclities for transport. [...] For the same reason and because of the deteroration in quality of grapes at the end of the season the prices actually fall in November though the supplies decrease still further. [...] The prices during the period 1930-37 as compared with the period immediately following the introduction of the transport of grapes in ice vans in 1.918 are low in all the markets.
