The Survey oontains two park : the first part consists of separate notes dealing with the various economic activities of the country and describing the economic conditions of the month and the second gives the necessary general statistical data dealing with production trade and financial conditions. [...] In the Calcutta piecegoods market a fairly active demand was witnessed in the first fortnight of the month under review for both Japanese and Indian goods but by the end of the month the market again relapsed into a dull and inactive state. [...] Stocks of sacking cloth and bags at the end of August 1940 were 24.0 crores of yards and registered a decrease of 1.5 crores of yards as compared with the previous month but an icrease of 5.7 crores of yards as compared with the same month of last year. [...] As in the case of hessians the falling trend of prices in the second week of the month was arresed after the decision of the mills to take further measures to restrict production and the quotation rose to Rs.
