On the 22nd the Government of India gave their consent for trading in Hedge and Delivery Contracts for the 1947-48 season's crop in the Bombay market of the East India Cotton Association subject to the assent of the Government of Bombay and also subject to the existing floor and ceiling prices and other conditions. [...] There was little activity in all the sections of the jute market and the prices declined during the earlier part k f the mont ). A slight improvement was noticed towards the close of the month owing to short supply caused by the suspension of booking of raw jute by rail with effect from August 10 and the proposals set out for increasing the hours of work in the jute mills. [...] In the case of Linseed the total area reported is 32 88 thousand acres which is 1% less than the area reported in the corresponding forecast of the last year and the yield 349 thousand tong which 0 4% less than the yield reported in the corresponding forecast of the last year.
