[...] In fact it was from indigenous powers that the political sovereignty of the land passed into British hands in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries for the vast political structure of the Mughals had previously been reduced to rubble by the nationalistic forces which rose like mighty storms from all quarters of the land at the fanaticism of Aurangzeb.
