Prabuddha Bharata or Awakened India

1952

Peace can be attained by gaining conviction in the words of the Lord—that He is the ocean of mercy and the saviour of the world. [...] Man is a spiritual being and the importance of living lies ih interpreting the world in the light of his highest nature and in conquering the material aspects of life so as to subordinate them to the rule of the Spirit. [...] The demands of the soul of the inner man for fuller expansion become more and more insistent and urgent as the appetites and desires of the body and mind are appeased. [...] 'The very essence of education' he says 'is concentration of mind'; and the greater the concentration the greater is the knowledge acquired and the greater is the efficiency of the task performed. [...] The greatest and the foremost human relatioship is the relationship of -man with God the relationship of the creature with his Creator ; and religion is the full and proper realization of this relationship the perfect union of the human soul with its Maker.
