[...] The Finance Bill which is now before the House of Commons will if passed extend still further the responsibilities and powers of the Board of Education Some form of registration of private schools has been much discussed and has evidently been in the thoughts of the Government. [...] The salient features of this period of reconstruction in our eductional affairs are thus the growth of Governmental control the creation of a recognised profession of teachers the reconsideration of courses of study and the differentiation of schools according to categories of service. [...] In the field of education the facts of to-day remind us of the conflict of forces during the latter half of the eighteenth century. [...] In their practical work the students are placed under experienced administrators in all parts of London and thus obtain some knowledge of the conditions of life in a great industrial centre and of the various methods of social effort alike in the administration of charitable resources and in the work of Municipal or State Departments.
