[...] And in the same way the village organization carries out the other branches of the village administration :—the settlment of disputes by arbitration the detection and prevetion of crime the trial and punishment of petty offences the repair of the village walls the temples and other public buildings the entertainment of strangers and care of the poor the removal of dead animals and othe [...] [Childs is on the Kashmir side of the Indus and the Gilgit territory is reached by crossing the Indus at Bunji.] The incident is ascribed either to "the treachery of the men who professed willingness to COME IN " or to the michievousness of " other persons."
