Here lies the heart of the country the focus of most of its4 The Arts of Nepal activities and know; as the Valley of Nepal. [...] Most of this art as exemplified by the fine architecture of the towns in the valley appears to have been developed during what may be termed the late medixyal period the golden age of the Newar supremacy being when the country was under the rule of a dynasty known as the Malla Rajas " who reigned from the fourteenth to the eighteenth centuries. [...] Most of the examples of the Magadha(n school in India have perished but the development in Nepal is represcntedby the numerous figures statuettes and other manifestations of this art which are still in situ on the temples and shrines of the valley. [...] It sect s adviable therefore that some steps should be taken to prese rve these6 The Arts of Nepal examples of the arts and the architecture of the country the former by means of a museum and the latter by placing the historical buildings under the superyision of an expert who would report on these from time to time as to their condition. [...] The MARQUESS OF ZEl'LAND was in the chair and in introducing the leturer said : We are greatly indebted to His Excellency the Nepalese Minister for his hospitality this afternoon and for placing the Legation at the diposal of the East India Association and the India Society.
