The greater the love the closer the relation to the sinner the deeper will be the wound inflicted. [...] These vital proh!ems bring us face to face with the questions: How can the school and the public library be brought into such position that the one may supply what is lacking in the other ? 'How can the library re-in force the §chool and the school re-inforce the library ? For the solution of these problems it is necessary first of all to recognize that the public library is an integral part of pu [...] The relation of the school to the library is that the former stands for the acquisition of the mere rudiments of knowledge in certain subjects the latter for the amplification and rounding out of that knowledge. [...] By far the most popular item in the extesive programme of this branch of the library is the " story hour." On certain days in the week the children's librarian recites to a group of the young ones selections from the best stories in the world's literature. [...] An important part of the educational work of the library is the assistance given to readers in their use of the resources of the library at what is known as " reference desk ". The person who presides at the post is designted the Reference Librarian.
