The Indian Review February 1946 a Monthly Periodical Devoted to the Discussion of all Topics of Interest

1946

THE Labour Government of England have lost no time in redeeming one of the election pledges made to the country at the time of the last elections by introdcing a bill in the House of Commons for the nationalization of the Bank of England. [...] As the national economy of England was organized n capitalistic basis the interests of the City of Loudon which held practically all the stock of the Bank were identical with those of the Government. [...] Its importance at the present moment lies in the fact that it marks the symbolic end of the control of the Bank by the City of London. [...] But apart from the fact that to deny to the teacher a right to take an active part in the political life of his country is to deny him one of the important rights of citiz 2nship the right to be elected to the representative assemblies of the country you are denying the political life of the country the beneficial. [...] If he joins in the shouting of the slogans of the hour and finding arguments for popular moves he is not serving the cause of good Government or proving the need for the introduction of the teacher into political life.
