1935

GOD'S GLORY As is to be expected from a review of general interest destined to the educated public of the whole country the aim of the Journal is to contribute to the advantage of India to the full extent of its influence. [...] The Spirit of divine Glory the very life of Deity is lent me the enthusiasm of His Grandeur the song of His Delight the rapture of His Beauty the disinterestedness of His Benevolence is sown within my poor self to fructify in deeds of luminous eternity. [...] God prepares the gifts through what we call nature but He leaves to His children together with the liberty of spoiling things for a time the choice and delight of. putting the last touch to the Garden's beauty of tranforming the wild eglantine into the rose of educating the children of nature into children of the eternal Spirit. [...] In the course of his practice at the Bar in South Africa he had learnt of the grievances of the Indian settlers—the economic wrongs of the indentured labourers the poll-tax on Indians in Natal the illegitimising of Hindu and Moslem marriages not registered by the Registrar of Marriages. [...] The protection of the cow is the spreme object of social and political life for cow-protection is the gift of Hinduism to the world.' The Hindu of history being essentially an agriculturist shares this care for the cow with his geneial attachment to the village.
