EDUCATION In a restless and material age the special opportunity of the teacher lies in his power to instil into our children the knowledge that the object of life is not merely to obtain the maximum enjoyment from it but that tt is a far better thing to accomplish something of service to mankind in the life they. [...] I have shown the connection that exists between the efficiency of teachers and the efficiency of the nation and made an appeal for destroying class and caste barriers in the country by making a beginning in the class-room. [...] The hope is that the village school will come to play a larger part in the life of the rural community that the teachers will take more interest in the life of the ryot and the unlearned villager and try to take the torch of education to illumine the darkness of his home. [...] In the days of Shankara Kashmir and all the hilly countries lying at the foot of the Himalayas were the stronghold of the Buddhists. [...] Of all the students of Nadia he was the poorest the gentlest the most good-natured the most long-suffering and the most spirited.
