Bennet was the only person who knew the name (" known only to me "); and it would read much better and without abiguity if the " only " came before " from the fact that ". What is the conclusion of the whole matter ? It seems to me that on the whole it is better to stick to the orthodox position of the abverb " only " in order to preserve the emphasis where it is most needed and to avoid all [...] India and the experienced leaders of the profession who have a voice and a share-in the determination of the curricula and the standards ? But the tragedy is that the profession at large and the leaders in partcular have betrayed a woeful ignorance or are guilty of a criminal neglect of duties by foregoing their right to criticise the present curriculum and to make recommenations or sugges [...] There are numerous minor problems with regard to the duration of the course distribution of the various subjects at different stages in the currculum the actual syllabus and the manner of teaching the individual courses of study for each subject and the desirability of doing away with separate examinations in some of these subjects. [...] It remains to be seen whether the sentimental and.personal objections of the teachers of the second grade colleges to agree to some reconsideration of the syllabus of the intemediate examination can succeed in checmating the inherent force of the great wave of reform urged on both educational and economic grounds. [...] `But these were not the views in the past of the older universities elsewhere and while the instructional function of a modern university is of a great importance to the indvidual student the older view is of great impotance to society and the State.
